As President of the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable (STEER), Omar Garcia facilitates communication, education and public advocacy surrounding the production of energy resources in South Texas.

 

An experienced industry leader, Garcia is an expert on business opportunities associated with the Eagle Ford Shale.

 

Garcia works directly with the oil and natural gas industry, local officials, community members, regional stakeholders, educational institutions and economic development organizations to ensure that the oil and natural gas industry in South Texas is advancing in a positive way that is mutually beneficial to both the community and the industry.

 

Garcia is a former vice president of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. He has over 12 years of economic development experience in working for the Texas Governor's Office, TIP Strategies, Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development, the City of San Antonio Economic Development Department, and the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. In addition to his economic development experience, Garcia spent two years working for Bank of America as Vice President of Business Development for their Treasury Management division.

 

In 2010, Governor Perry appointed Garcia to the Texas Economic Development Corporation. Garcia is a certified economic development finance professional through the National Development Council. He is a Graduate of St. Edwards University with a degree in International Business & Spanish.

Shayla Rivera is a former Aerospace Engineer with NASA turned Keynote Speaker, TV Host, Emcee/Host, Humorist, Comedian, Actor, Writer, Producer and Awareness Expert.

 

After obtaining a degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Psychology at Texas A&M University, Shayla spent 8 years working for NASA.  From there she moved on to stress management corporate trainings and motivational speaking, where Shayla discovered her comedic talents.

 

A self-proclaimed Awareness Expert, Shayla has come to know one basic truth, "The best way to learn, grow and change, in other words be enlightened, is to lighten up."  Approaching very serious subjects with a very light heart, Shayla helps young and old alike become clear about the personal beliefs that might be getting in the way of their real desires.

 

With numerous awards and accolades throughout her engineering, speaking and comedy careers Shayla is not easily placed in just one category or class, she defines her own.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa is serving as the Honorary Convention Chair for the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce's (TAMACC) 39th Annual Convention and Business Expo in the Rio Grande Valley.  This convention is one of the largest gatherings of Hispanic business owners in the state of Texas. The TAMACC convention will be hosted in the Rio Grande Valley July 31 - August 2, 2014.
