Julian Alvarez III announced his departure from the Texas Workforce Commission
Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez announced he will depart from the Texas Workforce Commission effective December 15, 2022. Commissioner Alvarez was appointed as Commissioner Representing Labor by Governor Abbott in February 2016, and reappointed in March 2017, to represent the interests of Texas workers.

TAMACC would like to express its sincere thanks and gratitude to Commissioner Alvarez for his years of service and dedication to the state of Texas. Commissioner Alvarez has been a good friend of TAMACC and an excellent ambassador for Texas labor and the Latino community.

“It has been a pleasure to serve as the Commissioner Representing Labor of the Texas Workforce Commission for two terms. I am truly humbled and honored to have been given the opportunity to serve you and this great state of Texas,” said Commissioner Alvarez. “I truly have enjoyed the opportunity to develop impactful and innovative initiatives benefitting both our constituents and employers.”

IRS and Security Summit partners begin National Tax Security Awareness Week and urge people to watch out for holiday scams and protect personal information as tax season nears.

Cyber Monday: Protect personal and financial information online
The IRS and the Security Summit partners remind people to take these basic steps when shopping online:
  • Use security software for computers and mobile phones – and keep it updated.
  • Make sure anti-virus software for computers has a feature to stop malware, and that there is a firewall enabled that can prevent intrusions.
  • Use strong and unique passwords for all accounts.
  • Use multi-factor authentication whenever possible.
  • Shop only secure websites; look for the "https" in web addresses and the padlock icon; avoid shopping on unsecured and public Wi-Fi in places like coffee shops, malls, or restaurants.

The Boy from Mexico is based on a true story of a young boy who channels his inner bravery to come to America. All alone, he must face natural disasters and sacrifice everything to have a better life. Young readers of this book will learn about courage and independence.
