Open Letter to TAMACC

Dear Members of TAMACC,


With great regret, I write to inform you that the U.S. Senate did not pass Senators Tilliss (R-NC) and Sinemas (D-AZ) Dream and border security legislation this year, which would have provided a path to citizenship for over 204,000 Texas Dreamers. We are deeply disappointed that, once again, Congress has failed to act on this issue.


Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, contribute billions of dollars to our Texas economy. Collectively, they paid $963.4 million in federal, state, and local taxes in 2019, and with their combined $3.2 billion in spending power, they injected millions of dollars into our local economies as consumers and homeowners. At least 9,000 Dreamers have started and own businesses in Texas, helping generate new jobs and growing Texas’s entrepreneurial spirit.
