Opposing Anti-Diversity Equity and Inclusion Legislation

April 12, 2023

OPPOSING ANTI-DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND

INCLUSION (D.E.I.) LEGISLATION

On April 6, representatives from TAMACC, the NAACP, university professors, and students spent the day at the Texas State Capitol to testify against SB 17 - one of many Anti-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (D.E.I.) bills introduced in this legislative session. The passage of this bill, and/or many others, could greatly impact D.E.I. programs, undoing decades of progress made for people of color and minority groups.

Despite the committee meeting on the evening of Holy Thursday, TAMACC was among a good-size group of people who continued to testify against SB 17 until after midnight. The day was an important opportunity for these groups to vocalize their points of view and oppose proposed legislation that threatens progress toward equity and inclusion.
