STAY SAFE BEHIND THE WHEEL:

TEXAS MUTUAL INSURANCE ENCOURAGES DRIVERS TO PRACTICE SMART CELL PHONE USAGE

As cell phones have become an integral part of our daily lives, it is crucial to remember to use them safely while driving. Here are some important reminders:

  • Ideally, it is best to use your cell phone when your vehicle is stopped. If you need to make a call, wait until you are at a traffic light or pull off the road safely. Do not stop on the shoulder of the road as it can put you in danger.
  • Ensure that your cell phone is easy to see and reach, out of its case, and plugged in.
  • Program your frequently dialed numbers in a one or two-button memory for easy access.
  • Keep conversations short and avoid socializing on the phone while driving.
  • Hang up in tricky traffic situations without warning if necessary. Safe driving is more important than telephone etiquette.
  • Avoid dialing a number while driving, especially in heavy traffic. If you must, dial the first three numbers, check the road, and then dial the rest.
  • Keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you.
  • Consider using a "hands-free" speakerphone system, which allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

Remember, all drivers are at risk of having a vehicle accident, and the use of a cell phone may increase this risk. By following these safety reminders, we can reduce the risk and stay safe while driving. Do not become a statistic!
