Leadership Tejas Class in Corpus Christi
The inaugural class of Leadership Tejas met in Corpus Christi, Texas, last weekend. The class visited the Dr. Hector P. Garcia archives, delving into the founding and history of the American G.I. Forum and its founder. Cecilia Garcia Akers, daughter of Dr. Garcia, presented the class with personal insights into her father’s legacy in the Civil Rights movement.
The class also received executive-level briefings from elected city officials, the Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation, Visit Corpus Christi, the South Texas Military Task Force, the Coastal Bend Industry Association, and the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.
On day two of Session III, the class spent time exploring and learning about the legendary WWII Aircraft carrier USS Lexington.
