June 24, 2022 Honoring Twelve Exceptional Texas Latinas On Friday, June 17, TAMACC held its Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon in Austin, Texas. Twelve outstanding Latinas were recognized for their resilience, accomplishments, community service, and their tenacity to overcome whatever obstacles were put in their way. It was an inspiring afternoon meeting and listening to these award recipients.  Due to Covid-19, the last Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon was in March of 2019. Uncertain of participation and attendance after three years we planned this year’s awards luncheon cautiously and conservatively. We are happy to report that the awards luncheon was sold out. Attendance was up over fifty percent from previous years. Thank you to those who attended and to our event sponsors who made this year’s luncheon possible. The Cen-Tex Hispanic Chamber launches Escalando, the first small business assistance program in the Waco area taught in Spanish WACO – The Cen-Tex Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (CTHCC) has launched a new initiative called Escalando (Spanish for climbing). This program, for the first time, will provide local Spanish-speaking business owners with additional support and resources.  “The city of Waco, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, is over 31% Hispanic and 24% of the population speaks a language other than English at home,” said CTHCC Chairman of the Board Jonathan Olvera. “Escalando is a program that Spanish-speaking business owners and entrepreneurs can use as a resource, to help start a new business or get the assistance and training to scale up their current business.” READ MORE HEMP A growing Industry for South Texas Latino Business Report Episode 34 - Hemp has been growing as a renewable source of raw materials for over 8,000 years. It is grown industrially in over 30 countries around the world, from Indonesia to the Netherlands to Argentina.
